AC Milan have confirmed the signing of Brazilian striker Luiz Adriano from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 28-year-old, whose contract with the Miners was due to end in January 2016, arrives at San Siro for an €8m fee and has signed a five-year deal, effective immediately.

Adriano becomes the Rossoneri's third major summer recruit and second of the day, following in the footsteps of Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca, whose signing is subject to a medical.

The two deals take Milan's close-season spending to €58m, following the €20m capture or Roma midfielder Andrea Bertolacci last month.

Adriano's former club, for whom he scored 128 goals in eight years - including nine in last season's Champions League, released a statement on their official website, thanking the striker for his services.

"FC Shakhtar thanks Luiz for the years he has spent in the team, for the goals scored and records set," the club said.

"We wish Luiz good luck in his new club and beautiful victories!"
